This course provides both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for managing medical emergencies in the dental practice.

Basic Life Support in Clinical Practice (Adult)

  • Primary survey and assessment

  • Adult CPR techniques (hands-on practice)
  • Safe use of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Choking management (adult and paediatric)
  • Airway management and ventilation (including adjuncts and BVM use)

Identifying and Managing Common Medical Emergencies in Dentistry (Including Dental Practice Emergency Drugs)

  • Legal considerations and duty of care
  • Emergency equipment
  • Emergency drugs
  • Vital signs
  • Anaphylaxis (including adrenaline / auto-injector use)
  • Asthma attacks
  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Epileptic seizures
  • Syncope (fainting)
  • Cardiac emergencies (angina and myocardial infarction)
  • Stroke and FAST assessment

Emergency Preparedness for Dental Settings

  • Roles and responsibilities of team members

Assessment and Certification

The course is continuously assessed by the instructor. On successful completion, participants will receive a Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice Certificate, valid for 1 year and meeting professional CPD requirements.
